Hi, I'm Chelsea! I’m on a mission to help you find joy and goodness in every day.
On this blog we talk about the big things (like chasing dreams) and the small things (like what books we're reading) because happiness comes in all sizes.
My babe turns FOUR today. How? Unsure. I woke up before him this morning, flipped through four years worth of pictures, and thought about all the ways I’ve grown and all the things I’ve learned over the last four years. That list is endless, but four things really stand out to me:
ONE: Balance doesn’t exist. ||
There are one billion and four ways to aspire to have balance in your life, and every single one of them will fail. True balance – between work, friends, your personal desires, your family, your health – there’s no way to show up 100% in every area. There’s just not. So (please listen to this): DO NOT BEAT YOURSELF UP FOR NOT HAVING A BALANCED LIFE. There’s no formula to a balanced life You just gave to find something that works the best for you.
TWO: The little things are the big things. ||
Extravagant vacations? Those are fun. Giant themed birthday parties? Also fun (ish. Debatable.) But the little things, the pizza for dinner, the quick afternoons at the pool, the staying up late and watching a movie in your pajamas, those are end up being the big things.
THREE: If you actually care about being a good parent, you’re already a good parent. ||
The end. And on that note: There are a million ways to be a good parent. There’s no ONE right way to do it. We’re all just doing our best, and that’s the best we can do.
FOUR: There’s no such thing as a day wasted. ||
Sometimes, I fall into the bed at the end of the day so freaking exhausted, wondering, what the heck did I even accomplish today?! But the last four years have taught me that there’s no such thing as a day wasted. There’s days where you rest – which makes you a better mom. Days where you do things on your own that fill your cup – which makes you a better mom. Days where you have to do the work that has to be done, days where you ignore all the things that need to be done, days that feel like nothing happened. But not one of those days are wasted days.
Cheers to four years and cheers to a life full of a million more lessons.

Love this and the both of you. Happy birthday to sweet Jack!
We love you back!!
Happy birthday to Jack! Weren’t you just agreeing to go to the hospital in exchange for Chick Fila?!
Oh my gosh that makes my LIFE that you remember that!! Time flies!!
I love this and I love you! You are such a great mama and I can’t wait to come to you for alllll the advice when I have a little nugget (not yet so don’t get too excited, ok gr8). Happy birthday, Jack!
I love youuuuu!! Ugh fine but just so you know I will cry for seven days when it actually is time
happy birthday jack!! i love all of these lessons and feel like maybe i could stand to learn them too
they absolutely should not have taken me four years to learn, but better late than never!
This post was so sweet! It was also one that I needed to read. I’m having my first child in June and I have this fear that my life will turn upside down a bit. I’m a control freak and I know kids will throw a wrench in that control…in so many good ways!
oh it absolutely will turn upside down! but it’s in such a good way!!
Happy Birthday to your cute little man! You are so right, just caring about being a good parent makes you a good one!
Thanks, friend!!
Number three brought tears to my eyes. The crazy thing is, I’ve said this to others before, but apparently forgot myself.
It’s so easy to get caught up in life and forget this!
Happy birthday Jack!
Good stuff here for parents and non!
I think everything being Jack’s mom has taught me is just as applicable in my life outside of him as it is within the corners of being a parent!
I need #3 plastered on the inside of my eyelids. I love that. I really truly do.
And #4… dang. I’ve never thought about that and I appreciate your insight SO MUCH.
It took me four whole years to learn, but it’s true!!
All wonderful advice, especially #4 ….wow, so so true. Happy birthday sweet Jack, and happy 4 years of being one hell of a mom, friend! xo
Jack is the cutest and I love him. Thank you for sharing so much about him with us. http://Www.Thecolorcollectiveblog.Com
